When to Use

Use the present subjunctive to express doubt, wishes, emotions, recommendations, or actions that may or may not happen. Common triggers include: que, ojalá, es importante que, espero que.

Important Rules

  • Formed from the yo form of present indicative, drop -o, add opposite endings
  • AR verbs: -e, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en
  • ER/IR verbs: -a, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an
  • Many common verbs are irregular
